The IIHA are pleased to announce details of the 2012 IIHF Youth Coaching Symposium to be held in conjunction with the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Helsinki, Finland from 4th – 6th May 2012.

“The Themes of the seminar are based on the fundamentals of Finnish ice hockey – Game sense, Character, and Skating. The seminar, aimed at youth coaches, will also cover the subjects of talent, learning, and teaching. These themes are examined by Finnish and international top speakers such as talent researcher Kari Uusikyla, former scout and executive vice president of St. Louis Blues and current CEO of Jokerit, Jarmo Kekalainen, and Tommi Parmakoski, a trainer of F1 driver Sebastian Vettel.”

All the latest information about the symposium and details on how individuals can register and pay for the symposium themselves can be found on www.iihf.com.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION PARTICIPANT SUBSIDY

The IIHA are also pleased to announce that the IIHF are once again offering the IIHA the opportunity to send two applicants to the “IIHF International Youth Coaching Symposium” in Helsinki, Finland from 4th – 6th May 2012 and subsidise the symposium registration fees. Accordingly, the IIHA would like to offer this out to any of our members who might be interested in attending the symposium and would like to avail of the subsidy.

All applicants need to do is email office@iiha.org, state their interest, leave their name, address, age, current involvement with women’s hockey in Ireland and what they would like to learn from this symposium no later than Sunday, 11th March 2012.

Certain criteria from the IIHF will apply in order for someone to avail of this subsidy so there will be a selection process by the IIHA to choose its two candidates.

Successful applicants will be required and responsible for the following:

•Pay for up to 75% of their travel arrangements to and from Latvia (to be paid up front)
•Ensure that they are a Member of the IIHA
•Keep a blog of their daily activities at the symposium for possible release on www.iiha.org
•Returning to Ireland to provide a detailed report making suggestions to improve women’s hockey in Ireland based on their experience at the symposium
•Ensure that they are free and available to travel to and from Finland for the symposium on the above dates

If you require any further information, please contact the IIHA via office@iiha.org.

PLEASE NOTE: It is possible to register for and attend the symposium without the National Association Participant Subsidy by following the information available on www.iihf.com.

The deadline for applying for the subsidy from the IIHF through the IIHA is Sunday, 11th March 2012.

Applying for the subsidy from the IIHF through the IIHA is not a guarantee that you will be able to attend the conference and if you register for the conference yourself and pay your fee, you will not be in a position to then avail of the subsidy.
