It was a Bulls extravaganza on Sunday evening, when the Dundalk Ladies Bulls took on the Bulls ‘B’ Team at the Ice Dome, and it was a very competitive and intresting game, with both the Ladies and the Men fighting for control of the puck. The 1st periord started fast, Sonya Mc Eneaney got a 2 minute penalty for roughing midway through the period, and her co-players did very well defending their zone. Both the ladies and the men were getting good shots on goal, but both goaltenders stood solid. Nothing could separate these two teams in the 1st period, with level scoring at the end of the 1st period 0-0.
The Bulls ‘B’ hit the ground running, with a well developed goal from Rian Larkin. But the Ladies weren’t long getting in replying, and came back with a superb goal from Jana Gerkena, assisted by the young and talented Catharine O’Reilly, making the girls and the fans alike go wild! Larkin and Gerkena remained the only scorers in this period. So it was 1-1 going into the 3rd and final period, and tension filled the air at the Dundalk Ice Dome.
Both teams were getting decent shots on goal at the start of the 3rd period, but once again it was the Bulls ‘B’ that came out first, this time with Liam Burke. The Ladies tried to mend their mistakes, with Lorna Hoey coming close at the net, but Sean Pepper stood tall. The 3rd goal for the ‘B’ team came from the Oldie of the team, Derek Tuite in his 1st game back with the Bulls this season. And the goals just kept coming, with Shane Muldoon scoring a fourth.
The Ladies rounded up their troops, when head coach Vytas Lukescivious called a time out, and giving the Ladies a loud team talk. Following on from that, the Ladies seemed to be popping into the penalty box every two minutes, with the Ref Mark Pepper not hesitating to use his whistle. The Ladies new goaltender Erica Murphy did her team proud, late in the 3rd period, saving everything that was thrown at her, and should fit into the squad nicely, in succession to Seanna Conway.
The Ladies will now regroup and will be training extremely hard this week, as they take on the Scotland Ladies National Team in two weeks time.
Final Score – Ladies 1 v 5 Bulls
SOG – Ladies 5 v 36 Bulls
PIM – Ladies 18 v 2 Bulls
