A much more focused team of Bulls played Novi Sad tonight at their home rink, determined to make up for Friday’s disaster, and did just that when the first goal was scored on 12.25 of the opening period with some great trap play by No.16 Eric Hogberg, and that’s how the first 20 ended .
The 2nd started in the same fashion with end to end play until Novi Sad tied the game on 38.42 scored by No 24 Branko off the top of the slot. Just to make everything equitable that’s how the second 20 ended all square.
Novi Sad went on to take the lead on 43.04 when their No 15 Jozef scored a power play goal but the Bulls did not give up and tied the game on 47.25 with some great link up play between Blanchard, Lubuda and Hogberg for Lubuda to slot it home. We have a 2-2 game and not a hair’s breadth between the teams .
The killer blow came on 50.48 when Novi Sad took a 3-2 lead and at 57.57 killed the game to make it 4-2 and that’s how it ended. The difference between the two teams came down to the impact of penalties on a short benched squad ,when desire, fitness, tactics, and skill, could not seperate them.
This was a great performance by the Bulls, no doubt about it, and Hugh Smith stood on his head to become the Bulls Man of the Match facing 48 shots and saving 44 of them. Roll on tomorrow night, when the Bulls take on the Slavia Sofia from Bulgaria who beat Novi Sad in their opening match.
Go Bulls Go.
