Ice hockey has been and continues to be a roaring success in Belfast. Not wanting to rest on their laurels the Belfast Giants are hosting the inaugural Hockey Fest Street Hockey tournament on the 27th and the 28th of August in the Odyssey Car Park and an invite is opened for players in Ireland.
What better way to find exciting new Irish hockey players of the future.This is the first event of its kind in Belfast and will coincide with the Belfast Giants double-header weekend hosting the Nottingham Panthers at 7pm on Saturday the 27th and at 4pm on Sunday
the 28th.
The tournament is open to age groups Under 10, Under 14, and Under 18 with an open category for all those over the age of 18. The majority of those living in Ireland may never have seen a street hockey game being played, yet it’s a regular occurrence in almost every town and city in North America where ice hockey is played and this event is a great opportunity to showcase the sport.
Teams will be made up of 5 players on the court at any one time with 1 goalkeeper and 4 out players. Each team may have up to 3 subs but this is not required. Teams will play twenty-minute games with each team playing a minimum of 3 games. Players must provide their own equipment with full-masked helmets being mandatory while elbow pads and kneepads are preferred but optional.
All players will be required to sign a waiver to participate in the event. Prizes will be given to the winning teams with several others such as “Most Creative Team Name” and “Best Dressed” also being awarded! Cost for entry is £10 per player with payment due in full at time of registration.
