Ice Rink Update

Over the past week, the IIHA has been contacted by a company who have secured the use of a building on the northside of Dublin and wish to build and open an ice rink with an NHL sized ice pad there within the next two months. It would be a private facility based on the North American model of National Training Rinks, however, it will not be open to the general public initially but will be available immediately for use by Ice Hockey, Figure Skating, Curling and private hire.

Representatives of the IIHA have visited the proposed building for this ice rink and are confident that an ice rink can be built at this location and that it will open shortly. Initial work on the ice pad and the surrounding area has already begun but many details still need to be finalised. As such, the IIHA will provide everyone with updates as and when we receive them.

The IIHA are extremely pleased with these latest developments, particularly with the commitment from the management that this facility will be primarily for the use of sports such as Ice Hockey and Figure Skating should it open. The management have stated that this ice rink will become a National Training Facility for the Irish National Teams, the teams and clubs of the IIHA and a centre of excellence for youth hockey and the IIHA’s Learn To Play programmes.
