GENERAL DETAILS

In line with a brand new level and qualification system which the IIHA will be introducing next season to ensure that the standard of on ice officiating is always of the highest, the English Ice Hockey Association’s (EIHA) Referee-in-Chief, Mohammed Ashraff, will carry out the course.

An outline and breakdown of this new level and qualification system will be presented at the course by the IIHA’s Interim Referee in Chief, Dean Kelly.

This course will be targeted at both people who would like to become an ON-ICE OFFICIAL and who have no previous experience and also at people who have past experience in either Ireland or in some other country.

For those who have no previous experience, this will be a one day course on Saturday 8th May from approximately 8:30 am to 7:00 pm. The bulk of the day will consist of classroom teaching of linesman procedures and on-ice positioning. Also included will be the explaining of the different situations that can arise in a game and how to fill in a game sheet.

For those who have previous experience, this will be a two day course on Saturday 8th May from approximately 8:30 am to 7:00 pm and on Sunday 9th May from approximately 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Again the bulk of the two days will be classroom work including all of the above but also included will be the teaching of referee procedures and on-ice positioning. Video review of calls in games will also be used to give an in depth analysis of when and when not to call penalties.
