The IIHA are making this course available to all members of the IIHA for free. As well, to any volunteers that have assisted the IIHA over the last number of years by acting as game day staff and to any parents whose children are members of the IIHA, then we would like to offer the course to those people for free also.
*For those who are not members of the IIHA, then the cost of the course will be €10.
Some general details have been included below but those who wish to take part must register their attendance by emailing Dean Kelly via firstname.lastname@example.org. More information, including a timetable of the events of the days will be provided once registration has been confirmed by contacting Dean Kelly. This must be done by Thursday, 6th May and should include, name, address, age, any club affiliation and current involvement with ice hockey in Ireland.
PLEASE NOTE: Places are limited so you should register as soon as possible to guarantee your place.
In line with a brand new level and qualification system which the IIHA will be introducing next season to ensure that the standard of on ice officiating is always of the highest, the English Ice Hockey Association’s (EIHA) Referee-in-Chief, Mohammed Ashraff, will carry out the course.
An outline and breakdown of this new level and qualification system will be presented at the course by the IIHA’s Interim Referee in Chief, Dean Kelly.
This course will be targeted at both people who would like to become an ON-ICE OFFICIAL and who have no previous experience and also at people who have past experience in either Ireland or in some other country.
For those who have no previous experience, this will be a one day course on Saturday 8th May from approximately 8:30 am to 7:00 pm. The bulk of the day will consist of classroom teaching of linesman procedures and on-ice positioning. Also included will be the explaining of the different situations that can arise in a game and how to fill in a game sheet.
For those who have previous experience, this will be a two day course on Saturday 8th May from approximately 8:30 am to 7:00 pm and on Sunday 9th May from approximately 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Again the bulk of the two days will be classroom work including all of the above but also included will be the teaching of referee procedures and on-ice positioning. Video review of calls in games will also be used to give an in depth analysis of when and when not to call penalties.
