On Thursday morning at 6:00 am, the Ireland All Stars ladies team left Dublin Airport to head to Riga, Latvia to take part in the Agrofirma Tervete Ice Hockey Cup. The team arrived in Riga Airport at 11:00 am where they travelled straight to the ice rink where they left their ice hockey equipment. From there they headed to the hotel to check in and a little rest. Later in the evening, the team headed to the Riga Arena where they watched Latvia play Belarus in an exhibition game prior to the upcoming 2010 IIHF World Championship in Germany.
On Friday, the team were due to play two games. First up was a game against Zemgale/JLSS at 11:30 am. Unfortunately, the girls came out on the wrong side of a 1 – 0 score line. A crazy deflection on a shot from the point meant that team started off the tournament with a loss. Later that evening at 4:30 pm, the team played Laima and again they lost 1 – 0. A goalmouth scramble left the team trailing and they couldn’t get the goal they needed to tie the game. The last game of the evening was the Tournament All Stars Game which saw Jeanine DeVolder, Beatty Hosgood and Cherise McCaughley feature for the Ireland All Stars.
On Saturday, the Ireland All Stars played Saga at 12:15. Unfortunately, the team lost 3 – 1. Later that day, they played the Blue Whales and came out 4 – 2 victors. This means that they will go into Sunday to play the Bronze Medal Game against the Blue Whales from Estonia at 3:45 pm.
Good luck!
