It was a tough opening game for Ireland in Croatia today (Sunday) when they took a 0-6 defeat to a fast & built Bulgarian side.
The Boys in Green where given their marching orders to the penalty box on a number of occasions, tallying a total of 16 minutes in penalties. Penalties have been well know to be a major setback for every Irish side in every level of international hockey.
Ireland wasn’t the only team being defeated by a high goal margin today. Host Croatia beat Iceland 9-0 whilst Romania overcame China 9-4.
Adam Pepper was named Best Player of the Match for Team Ireland. Pepper played the whole of the 3rd period where he saved all 17 shots that came his way. The Dundalk lad has been training with the Belfast Giants during this season. Kevin Kelly played the 1st and 2nd period where he saved 29 out of 35 shots.
