(For today’s blog, we get some insight into the Game Officials programme from the IIHA’s Sonya McEneaney.)
Wednesday, 18th July
We were on the ice today for 7:00 am followed by breakfast and classroom sessions right up to lunch. In the classroom sessions we learned how to measure a stick, fill in game reports and how to develop awareness.
In the afternoon we had off-ice training with Dave Smith who monitors the health and wellness of the NHL’s on-ice officials as well as NHL prospects in the minor leagues. After this, we had more classroom sessions.
Later in the evening, there were games between the teams on which were useful for me to watch and observe other officials on the ice.
