Jana Gerkena Officiates in Iceland

It’s yet another proud week for Irish Ice Hockey and the IIHA as our flag will be flying high in Iceland as one of the most promising ice hockey officials in Ireland will officiate at IIHF World Championships.

Jana Gerkena will fly to Reykjavik, Iceland, where she will officiate at the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship Division IV. While there, she will officiate in games between Iceland, Korea, New Zealand, Romania and South Africa.

Never has the standard of on-ice officiating in Ireland been so high and Jana’s achievement portrays this and shows that the relationship been the IIHF officiating department and the IIHA continues to grow.

Jana has been training in Belfast and at temporary rinks around the Island in recent months as well as going to the gym ensuring that she is fit for the championship. Her experience will stand to her having officiated in many different countries in recent years, including well known hockey countries Czech Republic and Latvia.

Before heading off, Jana said “I feel absolutely great and I’m looking forward to my first game. I will do my best to make Ireland Proud!”

The IIHA wish Jana all the best in her upcoming tournament and we know she will represent us proud and professionally. Be sure to log onto www.iiha.org soon for an interview with Jana after she returns.

We confirm that our organisation complies with The Governance Code for the Community, Voluntary, and Charitable Sector in Ireland.
