National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sports 2010

The National Awards to Volunteers in Irish Sport 2010 was launched recently and the Federation of Irish Sports are encouraging every sports organisation to nominate as many individuals within their sport as possible.

The awards will honour ten individuals who are representative of the 400,000 people who volunteer their time and effort to sport in Ireland each year through their involvement with sports clubs and organisations throughout the country doing a multitude of tasks. The award winners will be selected by a committee and awards will be presented by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport at a ceremony in Farmleigh in early 2011.

The IIHA’s Executive Committee and Directors have come together to nominate a number of people within the sport whom have volunteered their time over the past year. We have focused on those who do not necessarily take part as players but have nonetheless been integral to sport in Ireland.

Nominations are open to the public as well and we would encourage all teams and clubs to nominate at least one person whose volunteering in the sport they feel should be recognised. Nominations can be made online at www.volunteersinsport.ie

This is a great opportunity to honour committed individuals within your own team or club as well as highlighting the importance of volunteerism to the delivery of the sport of ice hockey in Ireland. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 30th November. This may also be a great opportunity for the sport to receive some much needed media coverage at a time when it is needed most.
