So Monday’s game against Poland has now come and gone, Wednesday’s a new day with some fresh hope and new opposition. Turkey’s up and the Irish players have had a day off to recuperate and regroup just in time for what will be an interesting game.
The game faces off at 2:30 pm local time which is 12:30 pm Irish time and will be the Women’s Irish National Team’s second game of the 2011 IIHF World Championship Division V to be held at the Winter Sports Palace in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The game won’t be broadcast live on the internet but there will be a LIVE TEXT FEED available on IIHF.com to keep everyone up to date with what is going on.
Poland were without a shadow of a doubt the better team on Monday but there are positives that need to be taken from that game. Goaltending and penalty killing are two areas that spring to mind immediately. However, determination and sticking in their right until the end also jump out and the same will be needed against Turkey as again, nobody is really sure what to expect from this game.
Turkey played Bulgaria on Monday evening in the late game and they lost 2 – 1 in what was an extremely tight game. On Tuesday afternoon, Turkey played Spain in a game that was close until the third period. Spain eventually ran our 7 – 0 victors.
So looking at the other results of this tournament, this has the potential to be an extremely tight game. This will be Turkey’s third game in three days and they will be looking to avoid going 0 for 3 so Ireland will need to be ready and come out all guns blazing. Everyone will need to be sharp and ready to go.
Thursday is St. Patrick’s Day and the Women’s Irish National Team have been invited to attend a reception with the Irish Ambassador in Sofia so we’ll all be hoping that the luck of the Irish is in Sofia a little earlier than Thursday.
COME ON YOU GIRLS IN GREEN!!!
