It is with deep regret that we have learned today of the passing of Andrejs Maisaks. Andrejs was well known to the hockey community in Ireland and was a goaltender for the Latvian Hawks and later the Blackhawks.
Andrejs brought a positive attitude to the sport on and off the ice and always had a huge smile for everyone he met. After the closure of the Ice Dome in Dundalk he became heavily involved in developing junior street hockey in Dublin.
The Executive of the Irish Ice Hockey Association and all our members wish to extend to Andrejs’s family and friends our deepest sympathies at this difficult time. He will be fondly remembered by all in Irish Ice Hockey and for the contribution he made to promoting the sport in this country.
Funeral details are as follows: Funeral Mass on Saturday morning in St. Coca’s Church, Kilcock at 10am, followed by Cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium.
Andrejs’s family have asked that anyone travelling to Kilcock on Saturday for the funeral bring their club hockey jersey to wear in a Guard of Honor and to meet at the entrance of the church.
