You will be aware from the article on www.iiha.org of the plight of Sean Lyne, his life threatening cancer at the age of just 19, and our commitment to assist in raising the funds necessary to send him to the U.S. for urgent treatment.
There will be a bucket collection on the approaches to Croke Park before and after the All Ireland Football Final and at Heuston Station, College Green, Grafton Street, Stephen’s Green, and O’Connell Bridge. Permits have already been granted for other locations in the City for Saturday and Sunday and we are also awaiting news from Santry and Clondalkin Garda Stations regarding further applications.
The IIHA and the Flyers IHC want to give a big push to next Sunday’s collection and would like to see as many friends of hockey as possible there to help out. The work of sports bodies has been massively impressive and we want to see that continue.
If you are in a position to assist please let us know at office@iiha.org or president@flyersicehockey.com by Wednesday, 14th September 2011, if possible, to enable us to put in place the necessary arrangements. No one will be asked to give more than three hours, as it is planned to operate in two shifts from 12:00 – 3:00 pm and 3:00 – 6:00 pm so we need many hands to make the work lighter on everyone.
Other fund raising ventures are in the pipeline for later in the month and we intend to keep you informed.
This is a rare opportunity to make a huge difference to the prospects of a young man with very serious health problems.
