Sean Lyne Passes Away

Members and Friends of the Irish Ice Hockey Association were saddened to hear news that Sean Lyne has passed away. Sean had been battling a terrible illness for the last few years which included a phenomenal effort by his family and friends and Kevins GAA Club to raise over 100,000 Euro for treatment to help combat the illness. They were successful in this fundraising effort and Sean was able to travel to America to receive treatment. Unfortunately, Sean passed away on the morning of Wednesday, 20th March 2013 after a long battle while he was surrounded by his family and close friends.

For those who are unaware, Sean’s brother, O’Connor Lyne, was heavily involved with ice and inline hockey throughout Ireland and represented Ireland internationally on several occasions. He has also been a player for the Dublin Flyers and Flyers IHC clubs throughout the years. Meanwhile Sean’s mother, Moira Lyne, has been a long time supporter of the IIHA and has served on the IIHA’s Executive Committee in recent years. The Lyne family are very close to Irish ice hockey and all those involved.

Sean’s funeral service took place this past Monday, 25th March 2013.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Sean’s family and friends at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

PLEASE NOTE: In co-operation with the Flyers IHC and some of the IIHA’s other teams and clubs, a Cup Game in memory of Sean will take place this Saturday, 30th March 2013. There will also be a fundraising raffle taking place at the game with funds raised going towards a charity of the family’s choosing. Please see the separate article on www.iiha.org concerning this.
