Vierumaki – Day 1

Saturday 4th July

It was an early start for me today as I arrived at the airport at 5:00 am having travelled from Kilkenny! Here, I met Cian for the first time and once we checked in and did the usual and expected stroll around Dublin Airport we boarded the flight. Fortunately it left on time at 7:30 am (Irish time) and we arrived in Helsinki, Finland at 10:15 am or 12:15 pm (local time). We had a bit of a wait in the airport once we gathered all of our belongings as we needed to wait for everyone else as flights landed from all over the world with the camp’s participants. Once everyone was on the bus, we left the airport at 2:00 pm and after about an hour and a half we finally arrived in Vierumaki.

After registration and getting settled into our rooms, I took a walk around the campus and I was amazed at the amount of sports that this place facilitates. At 8:00 pm all the Learn To Play (LTP) Instructors met at what’s known as the Bubble. The Bubble’s a huge indoor sports facility and conference centre. It’s very impressive! The meeting itself was an introduction to the program and we learnt what was expected of us during our stay. What is expected is a week long of hard work and lots of homework. So much for the holiday!!!

We confirm that our organisation complies with The Governance Code for the Community, Voluntary, and Charitable Sector in Ireland.
