Double Header Weekend
This weekend sees a double header weekend of high class hockey being played at the Dundalk Ice Dome, for points in both the IIHL and the Celtic Cup.
The Dundalk Bulls take on the Hawks in a double header weekend to claim top spot of the Irish Ice Hockey League. The Dundalk Bulls lie top of the table at the moment, winning all their matches, while the Hawks are in third having only lost one game… to the Bulls. They are currently pipped for second by the Rams who are ahead by the merest of margins – a single goal being all that separates them.
But this weekend sees these two teams, fighting for top spot, with 6 points up for grabs, there is no ice time to waste. Both Teams’ Coaches will have surely put their players through their paces in preparation for the weekend ahead.
The Bulls currently without injuries to there roster, are aware the Hawks have reported minor injuries to some key players. The Bulls too have recently signed 4 new players who all played together for Finnish Div.II Minor Pro hockey team the Varkaus Eagles, so they know each others game very well, and if something is going to shine in these two matches it will probably come from these players. It must be recognized though that during the off-season, the Hawks transformed there once sluggish team into one of the top teams in Ireland and are currently 2nd in the Celtic Cup
The last encounter, in which theses two teams took to the ice, saw the Bulls coming out on top. Benefiting greatly from the solid goaltending of Christian Ajnesjo, they played like a team, showed determination, and won on the night. They’ll be hoping to do the same this weekend when wins for the Bulls would leave them clear of the Hawks, but it will be a battle, and remember Hawks victories at the weekend will see them in the top spot with some angry Bulls seeing red and leading the chasing herd.
So why not come on down to the Dundalk Ice Dome to watch these 2 top teams battle it out , believe me, there is going to be a great atmosphere in the Rink.
