World Girls’ Hockey Day

The IIHA are delighted to announce that they will be participating in World Girls’ Hockey Day, this Sunday, the 2nd October 2011.

What is World Girls’ Hockey Day? World Girls’ Hockey Day is an event that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) is hosting which aims to celebrate the future of female hockey around the world. As there are currently no ice rinks open in Ireland, the IIHA have decided to run an Inline Hockey (aka Roller Hockey) event on this day. This day is an opportunity for girls of all ages to try hockey. The focus of this day will be the following:

•To be introduced to basic skills in hockey in a positive, fun and safe environment.
•Learn about opportunities in ice/inline hockey in their community.
•Learn about fair play, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
•Meet new friends and have a chance to fall in love with a new sport.

Where is World Girls’ Hockey Day taking place in Ireland? The IIHA have secured hall time at the Ballyfermot Leisure Centre from 10am to 12pm this Sunday, the 2nd October 2011. During this session a number of IIHA coaches will be present to teach and demonstrate the skills involved in the sport. Our only aim is to have fun and enjoy the fastest and greatest game on earth!

Who can attend World Girls’ Hockey Day? Girls’ of all ages, young to adults, are welcome to come and try the sport. This will be a fun and positive atmosphere and even if you have never skated on roller blades or on ice in your life, this event is for you!

What if I don’t have any hockey equipment? All you need are a pair of inline skates/roller skates. All other hockey gear will be provided for you on the day. If you do not have inline skates/roller skates, then please contact the IIHA Executive Committee at and we will do our very best to try and secure a pair of roller skates for you on the day.

How much will it cost to participate in this event? This event is free!

Where can I find out more about this event? Please see the following website for more information about this event: and also please feel free to email for any questions!

What if I can’t make this event but would like try ice and/or inline hockey at a later date/time? Don’t despair. If you cannot participate in World Girls’ Hockey Day this Sunday, the 2nd October, 2011, there are still plenty opportunities for you to join a team and/or try out the sport. The 2011-2012 Ice & Inline Hockey season is just around the corner and the IIHA will be hosting many “Learn to Play” events. Please contact to find out more about our upcoming Learn to Play Sessions and also to get in contact with our Teams/Clubs if you are ready to join in the fun!
